Big Scores For City of Greater Geraldton Surf Divisions At The Toyota Australian SUP Titles

GERALDTON/WA (5th September 2016): Western Australian brothers Jake and Rick Jakovich sent a strong message to the rest of the field in round one of the Open Men’s surf division on day three of the Toyota Australian SUP Titles at Geraldton, WA on the Batavia Coast today. The day started off with the blue ribbon Open Men’s division followed by the Open Women’s, Over 40 Men and Over 50 Men. In 4-5ft waves at Sunset Beach, the Jakovich brothers posted some of the highest heat scores of the first round, Jake racking up a 17.35 and Rick a 14.75 heat total. Other round 1 winners included New South Wales surfers Harry Maskell and Kai Bates, along with Queensland’s Tim Cyprien. In the women’s open draw, dual Australian Title winner Shakira Westdorp (QLD) put on a dominant performance, posting a 14.75 total. Hannah Finlay-Jones (NSW) was also victorious, posting a 14.00 two-wave total. The southerly increase did not affect the performances in the Over 40 Men’s division with Glenn Cochran (NSW) posting the highest heat total of 17.40. The elder statesmen of SUP put on a great display in the Over 50 Men’s division with WA’s Jamie Ralston leading the charge with a 12.00 point total. With similar conditions forecast, tomorrow’s final day should be another great day of action with champions to be crowned in all the City of Greater Geraldton surf divisions.
