Toyota Australian SUP Titles Crown Marathon Champions

GERALDTON/WA (4th September 2016): New South Wales paddler James Casey has gone back-to-back on day two at the Toyota Australian SUP Titles to win the Open Men’s Marathon Race today. The 18.5 kilometre Sunset Beach Holiday Park Marathon Race kicked off from Town Beach, Geraldton with all racers on-route to a finish at Drummond Cove. The Open Men’s division was a mirror image of the Technical racing with top guns Casey (NSW), Will Lee (WA), Tim Cyprien (QLD), Wes Fry (WA) and Harry Maskell (NSW) going head-to-head. Casey, who took out the Technical Race on the opening day of competition, finished ahead of Western Australia’s lee in a time of 1 hour and 52 minutes. Belinda Stowell-Brett (WA) finished ahead of her nearest competitor in Vanessa Smith (NSW) to take out the Open Women’s Marathon Race. On a day of great paddling conditions, other winners included Ben Mardon (WA) who took out the Over 40’s Men’s Marathon, Jean Ringrose (VIC) winning the Over 40’s Women’s Marathon Race, Glenn Cochran (NSW) finishing first in the Over 50’s Men’s Marathon, Steven Roberts (QLD) winning the Prone Men’s Marathon and Dave White (VIC) who took out the community Challenge Marathon Race. The final two days of competition will welcome the City of Geraldton SUP Surfing competitors to the wave rich Batavia Coast. Geraldton is 419 kilometres north of Perth located on the beautiful Batavia Coast and is blessed with beautiful beaches and a warm, windy climate, making it a popular destination for all water sports enthusiasts. The consistent summer winds make for ideal SUP conditions while the winter waves turn the ocean into a surfer’s paradise. Surfing has been well established along local beaches, with SUP fast becoming a popular activity for people of all ages.
